Preparing for Your First Facial: Everything You Need to Know
Booking your first facial is an exciting step toward healthier skin, but it's completely normal to wonder if there's anything you should do beforehand. The good news is that preparing for your appointment is simple, and a few small steps can help you get the most out of your treatment.
One of the most common questions I hear is whether you should arrive with clean skin or skip makeup altogether. While you're welcome to come with a fresh face, there's no need to change your plans if you're coming from work or running errands. Every facial begins with a thorough cleanse, so whether you're wearing makeup or not, your skin will be properly prepared before we begin.
In the days leading up to your appointment, it's best to give your skin a little extra kindness. Avoid using retinol, strong exfoliants, or harsh scrubs for 2–3 days before your facial, as these products can make your skin more sensitive. Coming in with calm, healthy skin allows your facial to be more comfortable and helps your esthetician choose the best treatment for your skin that day.
Just as important as preparing your skin is preparing to talk about it. Your first facial starts with a consultation where we'll discuss your skincare routine, any concerns you have, your goals, and anything you've noticed about your skin. The more I know about your skin, the more personalized your treatment can be.
One thing many people don't realize is that no two facials are exactly alike. While the overall experience may include cleansing, exfoliation, treatment products, and hydration, every step is selected based on what your skin needs at that moment. Your skin changes with the seasons, stress levels, hormones, and lifestyle, so your facial should adapt with it.
Perhaps the most important thing to bring to your appointment is the willingness to relax. A facial isn't just about improving your skin—it's also an opportunity to slow down, take a break from your busy schedule, and enjoy an hour that's focused entirely on you.
When your appointment is over, my goal is for you to leave with more than glowing skin. I want you to better understand your skin, feel confident in how to care for it at home, and know that every recommendation is made with your individual needs in mind.
Whether you're looking to address a specific skin concern or simply want to begin taking better care of your skin, your first facial is the beginning of a personalized skincare journey.
